UPSKILL Film (Computers)
UPSKILL – Film is a filming, photography, editing, social media, and web design skills development program. This is part of the Visuality Film and Photo school set up by Nataniel Pokwas and Graham Abbott at the Net vir Pret, NPO two years ago. This project aims to teach the youth to become photographers and filmmakers in the community. It is very important to teach the youth to tell their own stories and be the photographers for the village.
In the last two years, Graham Abbott the project director has been teaching the youth to do portrait photography, social photography, sports, weddings, and events. Graham has two of his own cameras that circulate among the Visuality students who are making an extra income for themselves doing weddings, parties, sports events, and portraits.
The next aim is to have the student learn more about filmmaking and post-production, video editing, social media, and web design so that they can build up their own following and create content. Having the skills of photography and all the multi-media skills allows them to build a business for themselves that they can do wherever they are.
There are greater plans for where the vision of the Visuality Film School is planning to go, but that will be shared under future plans. We need second-hand computers and cameras for the youth to photograph and film with, and to carry on learning and sharing their content.
