UPSKILL – Mentors (Teaching skills)
UPSKILL – Mentors are all the skills we can get the mentor and educators in the community to teach. From carpentry, welding, plumbing, permaculture, building, mechanics, electrical and any other practical skills that is needed in the community that can help the locals create a job or business for themselves.
This “Learn to Work” is not a fully registered program but an introductory program for aspiring students to get a chance to experience the process of learning one of the skills provided over a one to two week program and can then decide if it is a skill that they would like to explore further. They can then enroll into a registered program or just learn what they can to do the basics.
This program can also be a weekend experience or an offered learning just as a single project, like how to make a chair, bake a sourdough bread, prepare a few healthy meals, service you own car, fix your roof or replace a window, plant veggies and prune trees.
The bigger idea is to set up a skills development center that can facilitate, car repairs, a welding business, carpentry shop and learn building and renovation skills and much more.
UPSKILL has a building at the entrance to the town earmarked that is perfect for this project and has spoken to the owner that is ready to give us the opportunity.
We are busy bringing mentors on board and already have a carpenter, car mechanic, builder, renovator, electrician, plumber, compost maker, permaculture educator, baker, potter and nurseryman that have signed up to give of their time in the community.
