Our Vision

Our vision is skills development, job creation, water harvesting and management, food security, health (sport ) and tourism. With the community’s health in mind we are making compost and building community food gardens. In the process skill transfer is happening through compost making, germinating of seeds and planting and growing of veggies and being water security to the community.

UPSKILL is also teaching the benefits of eating correctly, one of many classes being given to the community is about healing yourself though good nutrition and exercise.

Playground Skatepark is teaching the children to mix cement and build walls, fostering teamwork and community building ,these skaters that would otherwise roam the streets. With many of our skateboarders coming from broken homes and, the skatepark creating a safe space for them to be children and feel loved.

The renovating of the Old Victorian Tourism building as a Tourist information hub and museum will be the HQ for UUPSKILL Barrydale, the Visuality Film and Photo School and will  kickstart UPSKILL Barrydale. Daniel Gleeson, one of our members will be taking 4 female matric students and teach them all the skills to renovating the heritage building back to its former glory.

This is just the first phase of UPSKILL’s Vision to bring opportunities to the youth for them to create businesses that provide services that will help make Barrydale become a well sought after Tourist Destination in South Africa.

The Visuality school students will document all the UPSKILL classes, creating videos from their perspective which will be shared on our UPSKILL Barrydale YouTube channel that will lead into an educational platform to share skills development projects, all learnt and filmed by youth and shared online to inspire and teach other youth the same skills.
